Essay Texting and its Influence on Your Studying Capabilities
Essay Texting and its Influence on Your Studying Capabilities Essay: Texting and its Influence on Your Studying Capabilities Modern society is obsessed with computer technologies. Adults and teenagers, especially youngsters, seldom write even a few notes in their notebooks. Instead, we send emails and texts. In a word, were texting on any possible occasion, considering it to be quicker, more convenient and most of all, more modern than old fashioned hand writing. Communicating via sending short messages has already transformed into a separate communication style. Terms such as textese, meaning sms language, and textisms, which refers to mnemonic devices or word-shortening are widely used via cell phones and on Internet social networks. Obviously, one should make use of all modern communication trends and devices, but one question arises: whether such an influence of technology is positive or negative? So, is texting harmful or beneficial? It turns out that theres no correct answer to this question. Surprisingly, expert opinions on this topic differ greatly. So, according to Dr. Crispin Thurlow, a language and communication expert, the language used in texts can be classified as adaptive and additive rather than necessarily subtractive (Lanir, 2011). Surely such a high evaluation can be viewed as positive. Even so, the fact, that such an opinion was expressed almost 10 years ago should be taken into account, as compared to 2003, the number of children and teenagers communicating via text messages has increased significantly. In 2009, Clare Wood and Beverly Plester became interested in the way texting might influence the level of general literacy and academic achievement. Within this research, abbreviations used in texting were studied. As Dr. Thurlow didnt state any negative ways that ââ¬Ëtexteseââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëtextisms could affect the studying capabilities of schoolchildren and students, these two experts began with the assumption that texting language was likely to contribute to the literary skills development of those who used it. (Lanir, 2011). However, the findings of the newer research showed that newly-coined shortcuts, called homophones, non-essential and initial letter omission, which initially aims to write the text message quickly and simplify it as much as possible, generally tended to devastate language skills in general, and spelling skills in particular for those who commonly engaged in texting. This resulted in poor academic achievements for students in regard to writing tests and grammar. This drop in language skill is connected to the fact that each written word corresponds to some definite mental template, which in its turn is connected with a phonological sounding system of the language (Nauert, 2011). It goes without saying, that theres no use in lagging behind, and its important to keep up with the times and with modern communication tendencies. On the other hand, it may turn out to be a good idea to draw a distinct line between formal, standardized language and Internet clichà ©s, as well as patterns that are used only for online chatting or on social networks, particularly when texting, and most especially when texting friends and family members via mobile phones. It has to be kept in mind that a well-rounded education demands certain standards, including excellent writing skills. These skills are important for composing resumes or application letters, or any other kind of official writing that has nothing to do with modern slang and texting. Our custom essay writing service is ready to provide you with a non-plagiarized custom written paper on texting related topics.

5 Ways To Avoid Interview Panic
5 Ways To Avoid Interview Panic So much work goes into the job search process that by the interview phase, emotions can run tense. Youââ¬â¢ve worked so hard to get in the door and now the stakes are high, your palms are sweating, and youââ¬â¢re a bundle of nerves. Here are five things you can do to keep your cool and rock your interview.1. Prepare before you goThe best way to not panic in the interview is to be super well-prepared. If you know everything there is to know about the company and the position, if you have answers to all the usual questions, plus a few unusual ones, if youââ¬â¢re ready with thoughtful, constructive questions for your interviewer when promptedâ⬠¦ if youââ¬â¢ve done all of this, then you wonââ¬â¢t be nervous about whatââ¬â¢s to come. Youââ¬â¢ll look confident, driven, and smart, and theyââ¬â¢ll know without a doubt you wanted the job enough to do your homework. Who knows, the interview could even turn out to be enjoyable for both of you.2. Get some sleepYouâ⠬â¢re nervous. You canââ¬â¢t imagine calming down enough to go to sleep before the big day. But rather than staying up all night pacing (or watching Netflix, or surfing Facebook on your phone) in your darkened bedroom, make yourself a cup of tea and go to bed. Youââ¬â¢ll be much fresher and sharper tomorrow, and infinitely less stressed.3. Practice makes perfectGet everything ready the night before. Try on and lay out what you plan to wear. Make sure your shoes are polished and your documents are in order. Then see if you canââ¬â¢t get a friend or roommate to practice asking you questions and assessing your answers. Saying things out loud the night before can make you sound more put together when youââ¬â¢re in the interview.4. Pump upListen to music that either soothes you or motivates you on your way to the interview. Studies show it can have a measurable effect. At very least, itââ¬â¢ll put a bit of bounce into your step and allow you to walk in relaxed and confide nt.5. Show up earlyBeing late is a big strike against you. But being a little early never hurt- especially if youââ¬â¢ve never been to that particular part of town or office before. Youââ¬â¢ll be glad you have a few minutes of leeway in case your GPS messes up or you run into unexpected traffic.

The improvement of the writing style Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The improvement of the writing style - Essay Example The improvement of the writing style Language barriers leave this writer without confidence but I do want to learn. Thereââ¬â¢s been so much information given and through hard work and diligence, I intend on being a good writer. I thank everyone for their insights and critical reviews that are sometimes painful. Hopefully, the end result is a better more clear writing style with apparently less effort. My first paper ââ¬Å"Late Flightâ⬠at the end of January is potentially my best paper. I say ââ¬Å"potentiallyâ⬠because I now understand the importance drafting, searching for ideas, outlining, peer review, rewriting is to the writing process. Creating a story or report is similar to building a house. The Designer (writer) must incorporate all known laws, know about all the materials needed, understand the weight of the structure and add supports where necessary. The paint is the title of the paper, and the entry way is the very first line capturing the reader using a ââ¬Å"Wow!â⬠appearance. My first paper lacked many details and the entry way was unlit and not swept. I now know it should have been written this way: ââ¬Å"In Shanghai, down below, the raindrops fell like tears flooding my hopefulness with despair. The next time I am home, I will provide towels to my friends as I say ââ¬ËGood Byeââ¬â¢ from a bubble window 30,000 feet above them on my way to America.â⬠Peer review and writing are much clearer to me now reflecting what is inside of me rather than what I see on the surface. I think now Chinese, Americans, Canadians or anyone feels the same types of separations the same. It is the mapmakers, the ones who draw the lines saying ââ¬Å"You are not the same as the other person five feet away on the other side of the lineâ⬠that turn people against each other. We are mostly the same people without the lines; and our differences are naturally different and wonderful! My second paper on guns might have been too one-sided in opinion. It is true that terrible tragedies did occur from gun-toting assassins but I did not ââ¬Ëreflectââ¬â¢ deeply enough probably because English is a difficult language for me. On a deeper reflection, if the government did ban guns altogether then people would not stop killing each other. In my own c ountry, The Nanking Massacre in 1937 might have been different if the population had been armed. My use of Obama as a point suggesting it was his fault government didnââ¬â¢t do something about gun control was short sighted. Men and women in Congress are the Law makers in the USA and it is their responsibility to pass laws laid before them. I have read were it was said the main reason Americans should have guns is to protect them from an over-bearing government. I canââ¬â¢t say if I believe this or not because I have not thought about the matter enough; Iââ¬â¢ve learned that techniqueââ¬â¢ in this class, ââ¬Å"Think before you write.â⬠Today, after the learning more about structure, I would probably write the paper with less emphasis on decisive language intended to galvanize and polarize each side of the issue; for and against. I know now this issue is quite important to the American public and if my paper were to make a difference, my paper needed to attract the c ompeting side by using arguments designed to speak to their values of ââ¬Å"Love, honor, dignity and independence.â⬠I would write it like this: Weapons designed for defense of Individual liberties and rights seem to add a loophole to those wanting to rain destruction down on innocent civilians. The balance between the 2nd Amendment and wanton murder again tipped in favor towards those focused on mass killings leaving more questions than answers. There must be a deeper discussion by all interested parties or headlines will continue to incite fear

The four agreements by don miguel ruiz Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
The four agreements by don miguel ruiz - Essay Example Dreams signify freedom. But our dreams are hardly unfettered, they are bound by the collective dreams of the family, country and religion and in the end most of us are domesticated like the animals we know, doing a lot of activities, without quite knowing why we are doing it. The general Theme of the Book is that most of the Truths in life are self evident and simple. We are unable to get to them because we create chaos and muddy the picture. Most of the solutions to various problems are within us. Also most of the problems are created by us too. The simple underlying fact of the book is that if we can make some simple but very substantive agreements with ourselves, we most certainly be more enlightened and bring happiness to ourselves and others. In this first of agreements, the focus is on one thing. It is one's word. Miguel Ruiz shows us that it is something which is very powerful and cannot be trifled with. The word is more than just an utterance. Indeed Bible has put the Word before everything1. Of course there it meant the eternal word of God. But even our words though at a lot lower level , still have a tremendous amount of power. It is who you are and what you feel. It is how you impact this world. Words have the power to create great good as it can create great evil. Miguel uses Hitler's rise as an example of how somebody's words caused not only to his country but to the World. Miguel likens the spoken word to a spell. And indeed words have the innate power to become self fulfilling prophecies. What one says, many times one believes, but it is more than that. The people who listen to us and respect us believe us when we say something. A word said in anger or frustration can have a life long impact on a child. But wha t does impeccability mean. Though it literally translates as being without sin, what Miguel means by it is word said without judgment and without anger. And the judgment has to be said aside not just for others but for oneself too. Miguel does say that even if caustic words are said about others by you, you are only reflecting on yourself. Though you cause damage to others by use of such words, you cause similar if not more damage to yourself. By doing that. Words are never spoken in vacuum. Indeed if you say a word in anger, they most likely will respond back with a word of anger. But a word of love and kindness will get back the same response. Miguel uses a phrase over here called "emotional poison". It is difficult not to notice, how drained we are after an argument or after loosing our temper, and there is an opposite feeling after pleasant words full of love and kindness have been uttered. By an extension of this gossiping is the vilest form of poison. It obviously hurts its in tended target, but if you are a part of it, it can cause intense damage to you, even if it is totally un true. Poison once mixed in water will mix through and everybody who drinks it will suffer from it. Miguel likens gossip to a computer virus, a small entity but with a potential of very large damage. What words you speak create a fertile environment for similar thoughts in your mind. A person constantly using impeccable words will always have a mind free of emotional poison. The Second Agreement Don't Take Anything Personally The second agreement presents a very interesting argument. Do not take anything personally. Indeed, even if somebody puts

Americas Foreign Aid Policy Essay -- Foreign Policy Politics Politica
It's Time for America's Foreign Aid Policy to Follow Thomas Malthusââ¬â¢ Prescriptions During the late 1700s, Adam Smith and Thomas Malthus each entered their predictions on the future of the worldââ¬â¢s economies into the history books. In his writings in An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, Smith theorized that national economies could be continuously improved by means of the division of labor, efficient production of goods, and international trade. In An Essay on the Principle of Population, Thomas Malthus predicted that the sustainable production of food in relation to population was vital to the mere existence of national economies in order to ensure an able labor force. Smith believed that the success or failure of a nation to progress toward development was dependent upon the quantity of labor and money invested in the production of manufactured goods. Malthus calculated that labor and funds would better serve a country if invested in agricultural enterprises aimed at feeding its own people. Their vast differences in viewpoints concerning development make it interesting to examine each author in the context of the United Statesââ¬â¢ reactions to the plight of the Third World. It seems that since the end of World War II, U.S. foreign aid policy has been largely based on the principles set forth by Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations. However, while Adam Smith has seemingly been the U.S. foreign aid advisor of the past, it may be time for U.S. policymakers to turn their attention to the prescriptions of Thomas Malthus in order to resolve the worsening plight of the worldââ¬â¢s poorest. This paper will first examine the implications and consequences of Adam Smithââ¬â¢s influence on U.S. foreign aid policy si... ...s Census Bureau. United States Trade Development Association. 1999. Title Anaylsis Painted Door
Title Sharon Sarai Block 4 In the story ââ¬Å"The Painted Doorâ⬠by Sinclair Ross the title is significant. The title is symbolic, it ties into the plot, and it sums up the main event. When Ann says, ââ¬Å" ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦Itââ¬â¢s going to make the room a lot lighterââ¬â¢ â⬠she is talking about brightening the bedroom door (49). We paint to bring change and improve upon an old appearance, it is clear that that is what Ann is trying to accomplish with not only her bedroom door, but her life as well. She thinks that she is embarking on a new adventure by bringing change into her home and painting the door white, but in reality she is just beginning a new adventure behind the door. The title also ties into plot and sums up the main event because the painted door is a very significant part of the story. If Ann had chosen not to paint her bedroom door she would have never known John made it home, because John would have never had the paint marked on him.Ann would have tho ught that John had just collapsed on his way home but the suspicion of suicide is confirmed after she finds the white paint on his palm, ââ¬Å"On the palm, white even against its frozen whiteness, was a little smear of paintâ⬠(67). It could be by chance that a smear of paint coated Johnââ¬â¢s palm or it could be a way of allowing Ann to know that his death was no accident. The title of the story ââ¬Å"The Painted Doorâ⬠is symbolic, and relevant to the plot and main event of the story.
